Krisen als Nullpunkt und als Chance einer eigenmächtigen Gestaltung der eigenen Zukunft stehen im Fokus der Gruppenausstellung “Traum[a]land – fluid futures”. Gezeigt werden neun künstlerische Positionen, die sich in Malerei, Zeichnung, Cut-Out, Installation, Skulptur und Video mit Unaussprechlichem und Unausgesprochenem, mit Tabus und Traumata auseinandersetzen, aber auch mit der Willensstärke, die aus dem Schicksal erwachsen kann. Empowerment und „posttraumatisches Wachstum“ sowie systemische und gesellschaftspolitische Herausforderungen stellen die zentralen Aspekte der Ausstellung dar. 

In vielschichtigen Facetten und vielfach autobiographisch lädt “Traum[a]land – fluid futures” dazu ein, dem aktuell inflationär verwendeten Begriff des Traumas umsichtig und in seiner Ambivalenz zu begegnen. Wann wird ein Erlebnis zum Trauma? Kann Kunst helfen, das Trauma zu verarbeiten oder es gar abzuwenden? Kann sie ein Instrumentarium darstellen, um innere Zustände der Umwelt mitzuteilen? 

Kunst birgt das Potential, sprachlich nicht zu Formulierendem Ausdruck zu verleihen, Unsagbares in Bildern zu materialisieren. Die neun Künstlerinnen der Ausstellung nutzen dieses Potential auf äußerst differente Weise, streifen Themen, die von Mutterschaft bis Missbrauch, von Trauer bis Trost und von Selbstermächtigung bis Selbstzweifel reichen. Denn Traumata sind so individuell, wie wir unterschiedlich sind. 

Den Auftakt der Ausstellungsreihe bildete im Mai 2024 die Ausstellung „Trauma[a]land“ auf Schloss Biesdorf in Berlin, die in poetischen Visualisierungen den Begriff des Traumas umkreiste. In Hamburg widmet sich das Kuratorinnen-Trio Britta Adler (Berlin), Lea Heine (Berlin) und Dr. Anne Simone Kiesiel (Hamburg) nun dem individuellen Umgang mit dem Trauma und potentiellen Strategien seiner Überwindung – und richtet den Blick bewusst in die Zukunft. 

Im Kontext der Ausstellung finden eine Lesung mit der Künstlerin, Regisseurin und Autorin Saralisa Volm aus ihrem Buch „Das ewige Ungenügend“ sowie ein Symposium mit der Diplom-Psychologin Britta Adler und der Bestseller-Autorin Franziska Frieden statt, bei welchem das Phänomen des posttraumatischen Wachstums fachlich eingeordnet wird. Crises as both a zero point and a chance for self-determined future-making are at the heart of the international group exhibition Traum[a]land – fluid futures. The show presents nine artistic positions across painting, drawing, cut-out, installation, sculpture, and video, each engaging with the unspeakable and the unspoken – with taboos and traumas, but also with the strength of will that can emerge from fate. Empowerment and "post-traumatic growth," as well as systemic and socio-political challenges, form the exhibition’s central themes.

Multilayered and often autobiographical, Traum[a]land – fluid futures invites viewers to approach the currently overused term "trauma" with sensitivity and awareness of its complexity. When does an experience become a trauma? Can art help process trauma – or even prevent it? Can it serve as a tool to communicate inner states to the outside world?

Art holds the power to express what eludes language – to make the unsayable visible. The nine artists in this exhibition explore that potential in highly individual ways, touching on themes that span from motherhood to abuse, from grief to comfort, and from self-empowerment to self-doubt. Because traumas are as unique as each of us.

The exhibition series began in spring 2024 with Traum[a]land at Schloss Biesdorf in Berlin, which approached the concept of trauma through poetic visualizations and an extensive supporting program. Now in Hamburg, the curatorial trio – Britta Adler (Berlin), Lea Heine (Berlin), and Dr. Anne Simone Kiesiel (Hamburg) – focuses on personal approaches to trauma and potential strategies for overcoming it, deliberately shifting the gaze toward the future.

As part of the program, there will be a reading by artist, actress, director, and author Saralisa Volm from her book “Das ewige Ungenügend” (The Eternal Not Enough), as well as a symposium with psychologist Britta Adler and bestselling author Anya F. Steiner, offering a professional perspective on the phenomenon of post-traumatic growth.

The remarkable video work “Morphogenesis” by Jacqueline Heer, a hybrid of drawing and AI that visualizes harrowing biosynthetic visions of the future, will be on public display for the first time at the opening.
