Clean Earth Community
On the occasion of the opening day of the exhibition When Paintings Become Trees, 146 Contemporary and Elena Bulycheva present the Clean Earth project, a two-year social collaboration initiative starting on Friday, December 13, 2024. The project, Call for Your Meaningful Action!, encourages participants to collect litter, document their experiences by writing a journal, and reflect on their contributions to their local environments. Through shared action, the public is invited to become stewards of their surroundings, embodying the spirit of ecological responsibility that Gustav Metzger (1926–2017) advocated for when he stressed the urgency of addressing environmental perils. Through her artistic and participatory practices, Bulycheva bridges personal memory and social activism, exploring social sculpture as conceived by Joseph Beuys.

146 Contemporary is pleased to invite you to the festive opening of Painting Unlimited on March 1, 2024, from 18:00 to 22:00. Press release excerpt: “Thinking outside the box is the common thread that unites the work of all four artists. The norms of artistic creation are broken down, and not only the medium but also the means are given a contemporary makeover. Elena Bulycheva washes her canvases in the washing machine, Julia Brosemann uses textile techniques, Chiausyuan Chai scrutinizes architecture for its interactions with its inhabitants, and Jigoo Hong deals with images of the body.”
